About Misty Threads

Misty Threads is found in Dorrigo, a delightful country town located on the beautiful Dorrigo Plateau in the Mid North Coast region of NSW. To find your way here, simply follow Waterfall Way from either Armidale if travelling from the the west or from the Pacific Highway, about 20 kms south of Coffs Harbour if coming from the coast. Stop to stretch your legs, have a cuppa and something to eat at one of the local cafes and enjoy the attractive boutique shops in town, including, of course, Misty Threads!

Misty Threads was opened in 2000 by Carolyn Hulbert who developed the presence and reputation it has today for a great range of products, efficient and helpful service and, above all, for a warm and friendly welcome. The current owner, Meg Owen, took over in March 2017 and is working hard to continue this.

We stock a variety of great fabrics, including Moda, XLN, Kennard & Kennard, Nutex, J. A. Young and M & S Textiles; most tastes should be able to find something to tempt them. A store favourite is our range of beautiful Indigenous fabrics from M & S Textiles, rich in colour and story, with designs created by Aboriginal artists such as Nambooka, Bernadine Wallace, Shirleen Campbell and Tanya Price Nangala. Misty Threads is pleased to supply several handmade products using these fabrics to the Gawura Gallery in Glen Innes.

We also carry patchwork and quilting accessories and patterns, books, wool, felt, embroidery threads, some knitting wool and accessories and a good range of general haberdashery. Another Misty Threads specialty is mending (and some making). So if you are local or passing through and you have a wardrobe (or other fabric-related) problem, come and see us and we will do our best to help. We have tackled some weird and wacky things at times!

Patchwork and quilting classes are held around the middle of each month, over a weekend, Saturday to Monday and run by our experienced and well-known teacher, Chris Timmins. Dates are on the website. Each year during the September-October NSW school holidays, Chris and Carolyn run the Misty Mountain Getaway, a six-day quilting retreat with a variety of great teachers. Smaller weekend retreats are also organised during the year. Misty Threads is very proud to support these events and and provides a friendly, professional service to all those attending. Details can be found HERE.

Sewers, quilters and craftspeople of all ages and persuasions are welcome at Misty Threads - we do love to meet you.
